We’re Going on Holiday
As a family we have had a really stressful year. We desperately need to take some time out and enjoy life. Unfortunately, it just seems like we move from one day to another, just surviving most of the time. It really has to stop.
A few weeks ago, I was commenting on other blogs and came across a post about a cottage in mid Wales. I told Jim that I was booking a holiday for August. He didn’t object past the question of “Can we afford it?”. My response was simple, I will make sure we afford it.
Life is too crazy to allow for downtime while remaining at home. So, even though we hadn’t planned to, we are going on holiday again this year. Instead of travelling to the coast, we are travelling to the countryside.
The cottage we are staying in is near Discoed, Presteigne. It’s set in a meadow and sleeps 7. (Something was definitely telling us something there!). It is situated in some beautiful countryside and with beauty spots not far away. The area has plenty of historical context, natural walks and quaint villages to explore.
I will be honest, I don’t recall the last holiday I had that wasn’t near the sea, if I ever have. I sense it’s going to be a refreshing change. We have decided that we’re going to carry the youngest girls for the majority of the time. Jim with Anwen on his back and me with Enfys. It eliminates the restrictions with a pram and they will be 3 and 15 months during our holiday so very different to how they are now.
I’m beginning to put a plan together for our week away at Wild Meadow Cottage. I intend to make the most of our National Trust membership by visiting a few NT sites that are scattered around there.
There’s also The Offa’s Dyke Path, which would make us carrying the girls worthwhile.
Needless to say, I’m more than a little excited at our plans to holiday in the summer and the kids are super excited too.

I can’t do last minute, I never have been able to. I really hope it’s going to be as great as I am hoping. 🙂

I haven’t been able to afford a vacation for several years but this summer I am planning on taking my boys on a few day trips and I am hoping to be able to get to Maryland to visit my niece for her high school graduation but as of right now it’s all up in the air. I hope you have a great time:)
Beth
Thank you. 🙂 I try to book a holiday every other year. This one was too good an opportunity to turn down. 🙂
Claire
It sounds like a great plan. We too have had a stressful year and I could just do with getting away right now 🙂
Beth
I just can’t wait… Stress causes so many problems, it’ll just be nice to have the opportunity to destress.

It sounds fab and i agree, you can’t get downtime at home. Using your NT pass will be fab whilst there. We haven’t booked anything yet but will go somewhere
Beth
Ooh, I hope you do find somewhere to enjoy some downtime. 🙂 I can’t wait to get cracking with the NT Pass it’s going to be so much fun. 🙂

So exciting to have a holiday to look forward to. I agree with you about somehow just making sure you can afford it – family holidays and the quality family time are so precious. Last year was our first family holiday abroad – with our children then aged 7, 5 and 3. Up until that point we had kept it to cheap and cheerful UK holidays with some wonderful stays in West and Mid Wales and Devon. Hope you have a wonderful time
Beth
That’s exactly it Cathryn. Regular everyday life is so busy we barely get any time to spend as a family. There’s appointments here, there and everywhere. School Runs, cleaning. We need some downtime as a family. We need to reconnect.
I don’t think we’ll venture abroad any time soon. I can’t bare the thought of it, especially with Enfys’ condition. UK holidays are fab though! 🙂

I’ve never actually been to Wales but would love to visit! We are probably not going away again this year except for a weekend in Scotland to see family (have already been to Mallorca and Scotland this year) simply because our little boy is due in June!
Beth
Wales is AMAZING!!! But I might be more than a little biased, I do highly recommend Welsh holidays. I would love to visit Scotland. I just don’t fancy the drive with the kids! Haha! Once they’re older we’ll definitely be going.

It sounds great. We haven’t booked our Summer holiday yet but I know the feeling of just dragging ourselves through each day. We’ll be making the most of our NT Membership too!

It gets so tedious in real life, doesn’t it? I very often feel completely bogged down with everything I have to do on a daily basis. Sometimes, a break away is exactly what the doctor ordered.
