Oh Macsen, how are we here again? Celebrating another birthday for today you are four.
For weeks, we have been discussing your birthday. I haven’t had the heart to tell you that you have to go to school. You have told me at least 20 times a day that “It my guffgay boom” and when asked how old you will be, you reply with “hore”.
It’s your fourth birthday, the first one you have gotten really excited about. The first one you have been able to tell me what you want. You want to “hee all amuls, elfun, heeyaf and hee” which can be translated as “see all animals, elephant, giraffe and sheep”.
Not only is it your birthday today but today we mark 1 year of Speech Therapy. You have made slow progress, but the important thing is that your speech has improved. We are able to hold conversations, we can talk to each other. I am able to understand 90% of what you try to tell me. If I don’t understand, I can tell you. I usually ask you to show me if you can’t tell me. 9 times out of 10 this approach works. I’m your Mummy, Macsen, I will always try my best to listen to what you say. That’s not to say that sometimes I feel like I am learning another language. I may not be able to speak Welsh but I can certainly speak Macsen.
This last year has been a difficult one. Anwen arrived and you were besotted from the get go. Your ‘Nanan’ can’t do anything wrong in your eyes. Enfys has become rather an inconvenience to you because she tries to interrupt your games.
You started Meithrin last April. It’s been a bumpy ride. I’ve struggled with you being in Meithrin because at the end of the day I’m the person who knows you best. The teachers are beginning to understand what makes you tick and what triggers you. You struggle with large groups of your peers, more than likely because of your communication difficulties. Left to your own devices or being able to spend time with people you know will listen to you makes.a big difference.
Last week, you got to play in the snow for the first time. The Beast from the East and Storm Emma meant that you could have your wish to play in the snow. We couldn’t build a snowman because the snow wouldn’t stick together well enough. You had great fun in the snow.
Today, you are in Meithrin. You’ve got a long day because you also have Cylch this afternoon. But when you get home we’ll have.a yummy dinner and you get to eat cake!
Macsen, whatever happens in the next 12 months, Mamnee has your back. I love you with all of my heart and I will do whatever it takes to help you through your challenges.
My lovely big boy, all that’s left to say is, HAPPY FOURTH BIRTHDAY!!
