I have been able to read for as long as I can remember. As a child I would often be found sat in my bedroom or on the sofa with a book.
One of my earliest actual book related memories involves a trip to Cardiff on the train and coming home with Roald Dahl’s The BFG. I was so excited I started reading as soon as we were on the train home.
During Junior school, the lollypop lady would always laugh at me because I would walk to and from school with my nose stuck in a book. One day, I was reading a poetry book… I’ll always remember her chuckle and quip “It brings a whole new meaning to Poetry in motion!”; I loved our lollypop lady, she had a smile for everyone.
I would always be first in line for library duty, even becoming a mobile library monitor. My role was to collect children who wished to visit the mobile library and escort them there and back safely.
These days, things have moved on somewhat. I simply don’t have the space for the several thousand books I would love to read… and nor do I have the time to visit the library every week. Just after Christmas, I bought myself an Amazon Kindle Voyage. Since Christmas Day I have read so many books.
It is with this in mind that I’m formally introducing Beth’s Book Shelf. An area of Beth in a Box that’s dedicated to books and the joy of reading.
You’ll be able to read my thoughts on the numerous books I’ve been reading. You’ll be able to find out whether that book is actually worth you picking it up.
If you so fancy… you can find me over on Good Reads.
