Revealed: The Truth About Weight-Loss

There are two lies that people will tell you about losing weight. The first: It’s easy. The second: all you need is exercise. Neither one is true because while for some people losing weight can be easy for others it’s a massive problem and it can be years before they see any type of effect. As for exercise, even if working out does work for you this usually means that consciously or subconsciously you have changed your diet. Losing weight through exercise and other natural means can be a struggle. We’re going to look at some of the roadblocks that might be in your way as well as some alternative weight loss options and others that you may wish to avoid.

This is a massive question that will have a different answer depending on the individual, but we can start by thinking about genes, genetics and our make-up. Some people have a fast metabolism, and some people have a slow metabolism. Contrary to belief, research shows that the difference here is not due to life choices or how much one exercises or even eats. The rate of your metabolism is determined by genetic factors, and it doesn’t follow a fixed set of rules.

So, you might assume that if a metabolism is fast, then the individual will find it very easy to keep weight off. But that’s not true. Some people with high metabolisms still put on weight while people with losing metabolisms can keep it off easily. As such, while your metabolism may impact weight-loss or weight gain you shouldn’t give up getting to your body weight if you have a poor metabolism. It is still possible, it just might be a little harder for you to accomplish. Again, proving that weightloss isn’t as easy as getting off the sofa.

Of course, you may also find that you struggle to lose weight because your body has become accustomed to phases of yo-yo dieting. Essentially, you might eat healthily at a certain time, binge, go healthy, binge and so on. You can probably work out what parts of the year we’re talking about as well.

People often eat through the holiday season, fast through spring, binge again around easter and get back into the swing of healthy living for their beach body. This isn’t dangerous per say, but it is damaging to your body. You are sending a message that this is a natural routine. So, if you try and lose weight more than the typical amount your body is used to, it won’t happen. Instead, it will be as if the body is just waiting for you to start binging again. Unrealistic Expectations

You might also find that some people struggle to lose weight due to an unrealistic expectation of how long it will take. In some ways, this is understandable as hardly a week goes by without news of a celebrity transformation taking place in just a couple of months. We look at the pictures and think ‘there’s no reason I can’t do the same.’ But of course, there is because these celebrities often take time off their schedule to ensure that they are fitting as much of a workout in each day as possible, which you probably can’t do. After all, most of us have other commitments, be they work or family related. On top of this celebrities hire round the clock trainers and nutritional experts to ensure they are in shape within a set time frame. It’s not a fluke, and while it does take hard work, they have a lot of help that you just won’t have.

The Psychological Issue

Food, in particular, and in particular junk food, is addictive. There’s no getting around this fact. When you eat junk food, you are in engaging in addictive behaviour a lot of the time. Why is this? Well, often when we eat junk food and find we can’t stop we’re not eating it because we’re hungry. We’re eating it for a psychological reason either due to boredom or sadness. We’re trying to fill the hole with food, and of course, this never works, resulting in a greater binge on food.

Indeed, studies have shown that we feel as though we get some sort of reward by finishing a packet or eating more than we should. It’s a complex idea but one that we should perhaps pay attention to when we are trying to lose weight. Perhaps it will make us think twice about finishing that tube of pringles or seeking a snack in the middle of the night.

Losing Weight With Exercise And Dieting

Now that we have looked at some of the issues that people encounter when they try and lose weight, let’s look at some of the ways we can shed those pounds the right way. We’ll start by thinking about exercise and diet. First, it’s important not to overdo it with exercising. You only need to complete about forty minutes of intensive exercise every two days. This will be enough to stay in shape, keep fit and keep pushing forward.

Or, you can complete less intensive exercise more often like, for instance, walking. Walking can be just as good for you as something more intensive like weightlifting if completed more often. So by walking a few times a day, you can get the same level of exercise that you would from weightlifting forty minutes every few days.

The other issue to watch out for is your diet. A lot of people dieting decide to skip meals, limit how often they eat and completely change their eating pattern. You shouldn’t do this. The trick is to eat the same number of meals each day, being sure not to miss breakfast. However, you should divide each meal into three small subgroups and overall limit the serving. By doing this, you will help the body process the food more easily, and you will also ensure that you are eating substantially less. If you do this, you should have no issues losing weight.

However, as we said this can take time and it will require a lot of work on your part. If you want to try something that’s a little more rapid, you can  think about some of the other weight loss options.

Alternatives For Weight Loss

You may want to think about gastric band surgery. It’s exactly how it sounds. A band is placed around your stomach and tightened, cutting off another area of your stomach. This dramatically reduces the working size of your stomach and thus eating a little will make you feel full. As such, you will be eating less without feeling hungry afterwards. If that sounds useful, there’s another benefit. The band can be loosened, tightened or moved depending on your requirements. As such, you should be able to change it to match what you need.

That said, this is surgery. It is intrusive and will require you to go under the knife for a procedure as well as a stay in hospital. If that’s not enough to put you off, it’s also worth pointing out that it doesn’t always work. Even with the treatment, research has shown that people still struggle to lose weight.

An alternative would be to consider fat freezing. This isn’t as scary or as intense as it sounds. It’s actually a highly accurate medical procedure that doesn’t involve any surgery. You might be thinking about using supplements, but there is something you need to be aware of about that particular treatment option. Research has shown that the impact is quite similar to a placebo effect. As such, it may be no better for you than taking a pill with nothing in it at all. As well as this many of the dieting supplements on the market use untested chemicals that could negatively impact your body and your health. As such, you do need to be careful about where you buy from and the supplements that you use.

If possible, only use natural supplements, and you must make sure that you are continuing to exercise and eat right. As such, it’s not really an alternative to the typical weight loss option.
